"Keep it out of the landfill. Put history in your build."
Mark Cool — Durham, NC
My name is Mark Cool. For 12 years, I ran a residential remodeling business in Durham, NC, where I learned the value of good materials.
I found myself saving unique pieces from job sites and incorporating reclaimed materials and salvaged fixtures into my work, building strong relationships with local salvage yards along the way.
That experience led to another 8 years dedicated to making art and furnishings from reclaimed materials. I've sourced materials from everywhere: curb picks, dumpster dives, and salvaged pieces from abandoned buildings.
In 2017, I built my own 12x12 tiny house from 100% reclaimed materials, where I lived for eight years.
I've also been involved in building tiny houses for my mom and daughter, always incorporating salvaged finds.
I built this directory because I believe in the value of reclaimed materials. It's about more than just eliminating waste; it's about historic preservation, durability, and aesthetics. Vintage materials are often of a higher quality than new. The patina and feel of a piece with history matter.
This directory is a tool to help you find those materials.
Every board has a story.
Keep it out of the landfill. Put history in your build.
The construction industry generates millions of tons of waste every year. Meanwhile, old buildings are torn down and their beautiful, irreplaceable materials end up in landfills. We think there's a better way.
Salvage yards, architectural antique dealers, reclaimed lumber suppliers, and building material reuse centers across ten states — with more being added regularly.
We organize listings by material type to help you find exactly what you need:
Shoppers: Know a hidden gem in your local area? Help us grow the community! If you've found a great architectural antique shop or reclaimed materials business that isn't listed here, please let us know.
Dealers: If you run a salvage yard and would like to be listed in our directory, please contact us. We're always looking to expand our listings to help connect more dealers with customers who appreciate quality reclaimed materials.
Every piece of reclaimed material you use is a vote for sustainability, quality, and preservation. Browse our directory, discover salvage yards near you, and help us keep history alive.
